Aberkenfig Resource Centre (ARC)

Opened in 2002, our Resource Centre (ARC) is situated in Aberkenfig (see directions) about the middle of the old county of Glamorgan within easy reach of the M4 Junction 36 (Sarn Services).

 Resources available at the ARC

Our resource centre holds an extensive collection of research material that is available to both members and visitors.

The library has a wide selection of books and journals to browse, covering family and social history of the local area as well as its archaeology, art and architecture. The material in the library extends to cover the rest of Wales, England, Scotland, and Ireland; with further - although more limited – books and journals from overseas. We also have a very large collection of BMD certificates, parish registers, and monumental inscriptions available for research. In addition you can buy a copy of some items for personal use at home, either as CDs, booklets, or fiche.

A number of computers are available at the ARC which allow researchers access to the internet and to FindmyPast.

Computers must be booked in advance of your visit to ensure availability .

There is also a team of volunteers who can help both members and visitors with aspects of their research or to break down brick walls.  Again, it is necessary to book a time slot with a volunteer prior to your visit.

Both computer use and volunteer help is limited to a maximum of 2 hours per visit. A charge of £10.00 per hour is made for research help, plus 20p per page for printing.

You will be warmly welcomed if you wish to visit the centre, even if it is to just to browse and see what we have to offer. If you wish to book a computer or the help of a volunteer please phone 07490 457058 or via email arc2@glamfhs.org.uk

It may also be possible to accommodate small groups by appointment.
