Presentation: The Place Names of Wales Project
Our speaker will be James January-McCann (RCAHMW) the project manager of the groundbreaking project to record hundreds of thousands of place names across Wales.
Using a wide range of sources, some dating back to the 2nd century AD, in various languages, including Breton, Latin and Low German, the website will protect and ensure the continuing use of Welsh place names. These give an invaluable insight into topographical features and land usage which can add detail to family research.
The project organisers are keen to add more details about the historical county of Glamorgan and this will be a useful introduction to the project and how members of the GFHS can get involved in recording their local areas.
