About this event

Did your ancestor:-

  • own land,
  • pay a tax on their windows, or servants,
  • were they so poor that they didn’t pay for their fireplace,
  • they become part of the local militia.

The surviving documents record our ancestors lives as well as any census before 1841.

Our speaker: Nick Davey

Nick has always been interested in History and in the mid 1980’s he started researching his own family history. He joined the Glamorgan FHS in the 1990’s and ran a family history research company until 2009. Since 2006 he has led the Family history sessions in Cardiff Central library (The Hub) run by the local branch of Glamorgan FHS and since retiring in 2016 he has undertaken some of the 'Ask the Expert' sessions for Glamorgan Archives.

Please note that we will open the Zoom waiting room at 10:50 am and the talk will begin at 11:00 am.The census is a wonderful resource for family historians, but what can you use to delve further back in time prior to 1841?
