A certain cure for lust of blood: Archaeology of Mametz Wood - Richard Osgood
Richard is the Senior Archaeologist for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (Ministry of Defence) and has directed Operation Nightingale since its inception in 2011 – using archaeology to aid the recovery of service personnel.
The talk will be on a project conducted for BBC Wales in 2015 to look at the contribution of Welsh soldiers at the Battle of the Somme in 1916 with an archaeological excavation at one of their major battle honours – Mametz Wood. The project was a component of ‘Operation Nightingale’ using archaeology to aid the recover of service personnel of recent conflicts, with several Welsh soldiers on this dig.
